My dear, valued friend Hubert, over the past half a decade I have met a new friend, a new Hubert, oh so different from who I used to know. Never in my life's time have I been mesmerized by somebody's motivation as much as it was the
case with you, Hubert, pursuing your destiny's call, the only incentive being your own power of will.
You have presented yourself to me as a person I never would have imagined you could be, doing what
you have to to nurse the hunger of your mind. Led by what can only be described as a gift from above
you set all your sorrows and doubts aside; and at this present day I am proud to say that I am blessed
enough to be the friend of a strong person like you, who is now about to do what could be written down in mankinds history. Despite my admiration for your plans, desires and ambition, I feel the need to
speak my concerns on our upcoming expedition. Oh, how foolish I would be to think that I could be in
the position to hold you back from what you have been dreaming of for so long, but yet I need to
express to you the worry I feel about the entire situation. Not only have you, Hubert, no conception of
what dreads you will and will not skirmish into; you are also enraptured by what you hope to find in
places unknown, numbed to possible hazards you will not know how to handle. I will not try to cross
your plans, for I can not lead you off your path now, but I am your second pair of eyes, aware of
possible jeopardies, not blinded by the curse of unsuspectingness. The prestige you could achieve is
almost within reach, therefore not making you realize of how your journey could, and if you ask for my
personal verdict, will be the death of you. But I have grown to know you and I am aware of the, from a
friend's point of view, harsh reality of knowing that you are willing to give everything, including your
God-given life, to achieve what you have set to achieve.
My dear Hubert, please do not let your blindness lead you to do things that are inane, for you have to
be cautious and well up on what you will have to face on the surface of the endless sea. You have been
dedicating your life to this journey, you have been obsessed with the thought of setting foot on the
eternal ice, to find the secret of the needle, but know that no man could ever be prepared enough for
something which has yet to be discovered. You will depart in a few days' time and this shall be the last time you hear from me before you set sail. I wish you the best of luck on your voyage, for you shall always have a hand's width of water under your keel and shall be protected by the deities.
Farewell, my dear friend Hubert, for we shall meet again, let it be at home or places beyond.
