Typing bedoelde vergelijkende een andere test van het QWERTY-toetsenbord. Deze wedstrijden zijn enigszins onderbelicht in de conventionele geschiedenis. In feite waren het typen van wedstrijden en demonstraties van de snelheid redelijk vaak in deze periode. Ze waren veel verschillende machines, met verschillende fabrikanten beweren te houden van de snelheid record.
